Cinematographer Sean Dunn just sent me a link to this clip he shot of Pittsburgh resident Paul Mawhinney, the owner of the world’s largest record collection. This is one of those things that has nothing to do with Hip-Hop, but at the same time has everything to do with Hip-Hop.
I remember reading about Mawhinney a couple of months ago after his eBay sale of the collection fell through. It baffles the mind that in a country world with so many millionaires and billionaires, there isn’t one person that can give him the 3 ...

This documentary tells the story of Paul Mawhinney and Record-Rama, the largest collection of vinyl LPs in the world.
Mawhinney was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years he has amassed what has become the world’s largest record collection. Due to health issues and a struggling record industry Paul is being forced to sell his collection.
A really interesting look at the historical value of vinyl, and the obsession of collectors.

So far the internet's reaction to the failure of Paul Mahwinney to sell his "world's largest record collection" has been along the lines of: "See, no one cares about analog media anymore." Me, I don't see it that way. First of all, his beginning asking price was $50 million. Are you kidding me? Even at the now "reasonable" asking price of $3 million, he's not getting any takers. You know why? Because for $3 million you can build an amazingly awesome record collection that you won't need a warehouse for and doesn't contain a whole lot of crap. [ Nah Right ...

Paul Mawhinney has the biggest record collection in the world at over three million albums. The amazing thing is nobody wants it. With plaguing health problems he’s trying to sell. It’s been appraised for 50 million dollars. He’s selling it for three million and can’t find a buyer. If anybody wants to give Chasing Lions three million dollars we’ll buy it. Thanks to Sean for bringing this cool documentary short to my attention. Director Sean Dunne gives takes a look at Paul Mawhinney’s 50 million dollar record collection which, unfortunately, is currently up for sale. (For much less than that estimate) Mawhinney shares his thoughts on cd’s versus vinyl while showing us some of his rarest pieces and travelling down memory lane. Dunne supplies some beautiful images in a nicely paced and somewhat morose snapshot of a man forced to give up something he loves. Check it out below.

What an incredible collection. I mentioned this a while back after “Record Rama” closed their doors in February and I’m absolutely shocked that nobody has bought this collection. Of all the DJ’s who claim they love the music and how loaded they are, they can’t spring for this collection?
